Job Opening: (Junior) Customs Broker

Do you really want to excel in your field, take on responsibility, and not just be a number?

Do you really want to learn the profession, take responsibility, and not be just a number?

Have you already worked or done an internship in (or towards) customs/logistics and want to grow further in the field? Not a large organization with layers, procedures, and departments, but a small company where you are directly involved, learn by doing, and have influence on how the work is organized? Then this is a role where you will quickly feel at home.

At The Customs Company, we are looking for someone who takes customs work seriously, dares to take responsibility, and wants to help build a growing company.

About The Customs Company

The Customs Company is a small, practical customs firm, built from real-world experience. No nonsense, no politics, and no hierarchy. We work with short lines, clear agreements, and a lot of direct contact with clients and customs authorities. You will start here as the first full-time employee alongside the owner and our partners.

You don’t work for someone here, but with each other. If something can be done smarter or better, we adjust it. We grow step by step and are looking for people who want to grow with us.

What will you do?

You will work in the operational customs team and be involved daily with the core of the profession. Concretely, this means:

  • Independently handling customs declarations (import, export, and transit)
  • Checking documents such as invoices, packing lists, and transport documents
  • Contact with clients, carriers, terminals, and Customs/NVWA
  • Identifying errors or risks and acting on them immediately
  • Solving practical issues that arise during shipments
  • Thinking along about how we can organize processes smarter and better

No commercial sales or acquisition. The focus is entirely on quality, reliability, and collaboration.

What does your workday look like?

You start by checking ongoing shipments and new documents. Then you work on creating and completing declarations, answering client questions, and coordinating with chain partners or Customs.

Sometimes everything runs smoothly according to plan; other times you need to switch quickly during an inspection or uncertainty. That variation is what makes the work interesting.

What do you bring?

Must-haves

  • A completed Assistant Declarant diploma (or similar customs education)
  • Basic knowledge of customs processes and declarations
  • Understanding of logistics documentation
  • Sense of responsibility and accuracy

Nice-to-haves (we can also teach you)

  • Knowledge of special regulations (quotas, NVWA, fiscal handling)
  • Experience with specific systems or sectors
  • A professional Declarant qualification

More important than anything: you understand what you’re doing and dare to ask questions if something doesn’t seem right.

What kind of person fits here?

You are practical, stay calm under pressure, and communicate clearly. You don’t wait for someone to show you everything step by step, but take initiative and responsibility.

People who do not fit here:

  • Those who only do exactly what they are told
  • Those who shift problems or say “that’s not my task”
  • Those who don’t want to learn or take responsibility

What do you get in return?

  • Salary between €2,700 and €3,300 gross per month (full-time), depending on experience
  • Intensive personal guidance from the owner and the opportunity to grow with the company
  • A gym membership at the gym opposite our office
  • Training opportunities and career growth within customs & logistics
  • 25 vacation days, holiday allowance, and pension scheme
  • Travel reimbursement or public transport card
  • Full-time or part-time (32 hours) possible
  • Working in a small, close-knit team with short lines and a lot of trust

Hybrid working is possible; but you are welcome at the office every day if you prefer.

Why is this an interesting next step?

Because here you:

  • Are not just a number
  • Work directly with the owners
  • Learn a lot by doing
  • Help build a growing company
  • Have real influence on your work and development

Here you can become an independent, all-round declarant, with a fixed role within the company and potentially a key position as the company grows.

Apply?

The process is intentionally simple:

  1. Send your CV
  2. First interview to see if there’s a good fit
  3. Possibly a second, more in-depth interview

No long procedures or unnecessary rounds.

Does this sound like a place where you can take your work seriously and grow?

Please send your resume and a brief cover letter. Just keep it simple. If you have any questions about us or the process, please contact Bob Endeveld at bob@thecustomscompany.nl.
